Transitions and Edits!

In today's blog post will examine the different transitions and editing styles used in everyday films and movies. Editing these clips was not too difficult but gave me a feel of how real movie shots are filmed and edited. Most of my clips were edited using Capcut and filmed using TikTok.

Jump Cut

For my first transition, I decided to film a jump cut to show the passing of time and the breaks in between the continuous actions. I used this cut to show how the characters became more and more confused over time. Editing this shot was very simple as I instructed the actors to stand in different positions for half a second each and stitched afterward them all together creating a series of jump cuts and transitions.

Invisible Transition

For my next transition, I filmed an Invisible Transition also known as a seamless or match cut. I blended two shots together smoothly so that the audience would hardly notice the transition. However, for this particular shot, it's important not to confuse this shot with the Fade to Black. This transition is meant to show a seamless cut between two trash cans in different locations, showing setting change and location change.

Fade to white

Last but not least, we have the Fade to White. In this specific shot, the character is shown doing a gymnastic stunt, then falling and passing out. To simulate the character passing out, I used the Fade to-white transition to symbolize a dream or memory to evoke a sense of hope from the audience. Filming this clip was extremely easy and to edit it I used CapCut and added a white fade near the end of the clip. Overall, filming these transitions was not hard and taught me the fundamentals of film editing.
