Colors in our project
Today, we’re diving into how color is used in my project. Throughout my film, we’ve incorporated a range of colors, each carefully chosen to enhance the themes in our opening scene. Some of the key colors we focused on are white, red, with subtle hints of green and blue.
Let’s start with white, which plays a major role in the main character’s color palette. We used white to portray her as innocent, delicate, and seemingly perfect. White represents a blank slate with no negative connotations, which perfectly aligns with her upbeat personality and her innocence about what’s to come. Her character is also a bit of a perfectionist, so the use of white in her costume reflects that trait.
On the other hand, red was used to symbolize the sinister intentions of her boyfriend. His costume features a bold red jacket, which acts as a metaphorical “mask” hiding his true self. Red is often associated with danger, making it the perfect color to foreshadow the fact that he ultimately kills the main character in the opening. Additionally, red ties into his role as a jock, as it’s a color society often links to masculinity and dominance.
We also incorporated green in the main character’s room to highlight her feelings of peace and comfort in her personal space. Meanwhile, blue was subtly included in her costume to add a sense of calmness to her character.
One of our intentional choices throughout the opening was to use light, soft colors to create a sense of normalcy and joy. This helped emphasize the shocking and unfitting nature of her murder, making it all the more unexpected.
Thanks for reading! I can’t wait to share more about the creative process behind my project in upcoming posts.
