Altering the Ending

Pitching the Twist: Making Jasmine the killer

Hey readers! In this blog, I'm going over my full pitch on changing the intro and remodeling the ending to satisfy the element of surprise. To shorten the intro and make room for suspense building, I suggested fading from black to show Jasmine doing her makeup. Since we already have those shots, we won't have to spend time filming anything new from this part. Next, she'll get a call from Jonathan (her date), and after a short conversation, she'll run outside expecting him, except he or his car won't be there. Before, Jonathan was meant to pull up and kill her when they met and hugged, in broad daylight. My suggestion should instantly raise questions and make the audience uneasy. The audience will most likely assume something bad is going to happen to the main character since he isn't there even though he called. I also pitched that Jasmine should walk back inside the same house, except downstairs is dark and warm-toned to add to the tone shift. This atmosphere will build tension and suspense within the film after she walks in. As she goes back inside, we see Jonathan in the corner and watch her sit down. After she sits down she disappears and Jonathan appears behind her. Here is where the twist happens, Jonathan doesn't see her on the couch and she is actually behind him, making him the victim.

I knew that my group wasn't really into building this much suspense, but I wasn't sure how else to structure the film without it feeling corny. If we continue to force both a montage and murder into a short two-minute film, it just wouldn't work, I felt it had to be one or the other. Right now, we have a film with no real thriller elements. So I pitched the idea to the group hoping the twist would keep the film short and concise, make the ending feel more original and unexpected, and fix the pacing issues by cutting out unnecessary buildup. I'm very away this is a big change, but I feel it like make the film feel more polished and engaging.
