Editing: In Depth (Pt.2)
Editing & Refining
Editing has been very time-consuming but extremely rewarding. This part of the production has taught me how to adjust audio correctly, color grade properly, and create sequences effectively. Since I already have experience in editing with Adobe Premiere Pro it didn't take me too long to edit the film. It took approximately 3-4 hours across the span of three days to edit the film. Everyone in my group had a say in how the final product would come out, but as the main person editing, I was in charge of piecing every shot and audio clip together. Courtney had a specific vision for color grading so I worked to fulfill that vision and match the overall mood of the film.
While editing, this is where I realized the movie's flow didn't sit right with me. The transition from the montage to the short story and killing scene all in under 2 minutes was not going to work. Not only to mention the film was taking place during the day and the main plot is a horror serial killer. I understood my group wanted to incorporate the element of surprise, however, I felt we were trying to do way too much within 2 minutes. I personally did not believe we could have a happy intro, an ecstatic mood, then a dramatic shift to a murder happening all at once. After I reviewed the film multiple times, I suggested we change the ending and remove the intro montage. I felt this would help the film feel more natural and cohesive. I'll go into more detail about my ideas in future post. For now, the editing is not hard or difficult and we are confident our film we turn out decent.
