Group Meeting!
Pitching my Concerns
After realizing our film's current structure, I started thinking about how we could improve it to make it feel more like a thriller and build suspense. The biggest issues were pacing and the timing of the killing scene, so I brought it up to my group members. Firstly, I explained that the montage was a good idea to add to the story, but didn't really add to the suspense. I understood Courtney wanted to portray the happy cheerful girl aesthetic through a short montage, but I didn't see it fitting in with our film. I suggested removing it and instead focusing on building suspense and making it lead up to the climax for more suspense.
Next, I brought up the timing of the killing scene. This was one of my biggest concerns, I mentioned that thrillers rely on atmosphere, and it's going to be difficult to make the scene feel intense when it's bright outside. I also mentioned that it's already hard enough since we don't have much time to build suspense. Killing during the day doesn't create the same unsettling feeling as a killing happening at night. The other group members debated, that the killing was supposed to happen during the day so we could incorporate the element of surprise. However, I brought up the fact that it would be more random and abrupt than surprising. I suggested we reshoot certain aspects of the film that take place indoors since the inside of Courtney's house is rather dark. I didn't want to completely change the plot of the story that we all agreed on, but I also suggested that if we wanted to keep the element of surprise we could make Jasmine the killer. My suggestion we're to trick the reader into thinking her date is the killer when it's actually her, that way we could incorporate the element of surprise and have suspense built as well. We also agreed to change the name of the film from "All-Star Killer" to "Behind You" to fit the mood better. It was also a clever change. After all, we agreed to cut some parts out and redo the ending, the next step is... How exactly are we going to alter the ending?
