Sound Design: In Depth (PT. 2!!)
Final Sound Design!
Sound Design played a massive role in shaping the atmosphere of our film. For starters, we decided to use voice memos on my phone for the dialogue, and it was the best decision we made. The audio quality was actually surprisingly amazing. I didn't have to do any heavy editing or rent/borrow any heavy-duty microphones, although that probably would've improved the audio quality as well. Voice memos kept the dialogue sounding natural which truly helped with the flow of the film. There are a few shots where we did have to rely on the raw camera microphone, which doesn't pick up the best sound, but this only affected a small amount of clips. Maybe around 2-3 clips. To fix that I used a denoiser in Premiere Pro to cut out background noise and make the audio more polished. Worked like a charm.
For the music and ambiance, I used good ol' YouTube, for background track and used a ton of royalty-free horror sound effects. These sounds such as violins, suspense tracks, screams, and knife slashes helped to create the right atmosphere we hoped for. The background music at the beginning set the mood at first but it eventually shifted to something more unsettling which fit the tone of the story. All in all, the sound design really brought the entire film together.
